Our day started out unexpectedly early. I was awakened from my slumber at ard 2am cos of noises outside: teenagers shouting n screaming loudly. But, I totally ignored it and fell back to sleep cos I thought the kids were already on their way home.
At 3am, I woke up again to take a pee. I walked to the toilet and realised the door was closed. So I looked back to the bed, thinking that my husband was lying there, and said "Why did you close the toilet door?". I was so startled when the door suddenly opened and heard my husband said "It's me, I'm taking a s***". Sheesh, I must have been dreaming cos I seriously thought I saw him in bed.
But anyways, while waiting for my turn, I heard several police cars coming down the street with loud sirens and all..First, I saw one...then 2...then 3...and possibly up to 9 police cars. Man, what's happening outside!! Before I could gather my thoughts and fully wake up, I heard the sound of the flush from the toilet. I asked the husband, "What's happening outside?". He then said that they could have been a group of drunk teenagers fighting outside. And a major fight I presume since I saw 9 police cars pass outside our house. At that point, I felt glad that we're on the 3rd floor of the apartment block and there is a main security door downstairs before being able to enter the apartment door!
So then, the DRAMA continues. The husband went to the bathroom to wash his hands and realised there's NO WATER. Sheesh. Tried all the taps in the house but still with the same outcome. The first thing that came to my mind was that the drunken teens may have done something to the water supply or sumthing to that effect. Then again, it couldn't be possible cos the police cars were all lined up farther up the road.
The husband and I then peeked out the window in our bathroom and to our amazement, we saw that the back alley and the road outside has turned into a river of muddy water. The muddy water flowed as if it was a REAL river. We also saw a guy, possibly from the Utlities company, trying to get things in control. Man, dun tell me the water pipe burst AGAIN!!!
Ok, mental check of water supply in the house?? Hmm..2 bottles of cold water in the fridge and some water in the kettle. Guess, we're doing alrite as compared to no water at all.
After a moment of silence, it occurred to the husband that the garage might have been affected by the unexpected "flood" too. So he rushed downstairs at 3am+ and as he opened the garage door, water started gushing out. The water was ankle deep and the boxes were obviously WET. Some empty boxes were also floating in the water. His heart sank after looking at what happened since he had just managed to dry out some of the boxes recently after the water pipes burst (outside out apartment) in December 2006. But nothing could be done. We just have to wait till the water stopped running and dry out the boxes again.
Despite the racket outside, we went back to bed to catch up with some zzzzzz in the hope that everything would be fine again much later in the morning. It was wishful thinking on my part cos I hoped I will wake up in the morning and realised that it was just a bad dream. Then again, I was so wrong.
We slept and woke up ard 6am to the noises of machineries outside the house and people's voices. From the room balcony, I could see several residents outside possibly trying to figure out wat happened and why there wasn't any water supply.
We brushed our teeth and washed up a bit (done P.Ramlee style as always) with our very little supply of bottled water. We ate breakfast and decided to go out. No point staying at home when there's no water. From the living room balcony, this was wat I saw....
So we left the house ard 8am to go to the Gold Coast. We went to Carrara Markets and Harbourtown Shopping Centre to do some shopping. We went to watch the movie De Ja Vu starring Denzel Washington and then had an early dinner. We drove for an hour and a half.......reached home at ard 8pm. The road outside our house was empty and in a much cleaner state as compared to the early morning. The burst pipe seemed to have been replaced.
Are we really that unlucky or wat??!! No electricity supply and water pipe under the road burst TWICE. What else..we wonder! Guess, we just have to wait and see.
