I seriously miss my Singtel broadband connection plan back home. All you need to do is pay a flat rate every month and you can surf as much as you want...yes...as much as you want!
Over here, I have to keep track of my Optus Internet usage on a daily basis (no....hourly basis considering paranoid me!!!) even though I'm on a broadband plan.
There are various tiers of broadband plan here namely Light, Sprint, Advantage and Power (all in ascending order of cost).
We were previously on a $49.95 Advantage plan but downgraded recently cos we don't seem to use the plan to the maximum. So we downgraded to the Sprint plan instead at $39.95. The other reason why we downgraded was because we thought the plan data allowance for the Sprint plan was 4 GB per month which should be more than enough considering our usage. The 7 GB Advantage plan that we had previously was in fact far too much for us.
But, we realised that we may have made a mistake. We now realised the Sprint plan only gave us 2 GB worth of downloads monthly (peak usage from 12pm to 12am). As we combined our Optus Local and Mobile services with Optus broadband, we were rewarded with bonus 4 GB Off-Peak data for use between 12am and 12pm. This is a far cry from the 14 GB Off-Peak data that we got for our Advantage Plan.
We are paying just $10 less but don't seem to be getting what we bargained for.
Get this:
$49.95 for a 7GB Advantage plan and 14 GB Off-peak bonus
as compared to...
$39.95 for a 2GB Sprint plan and 4 GB Off-peak bonus
The data gap is so wide despite the amount you're paying! Why isn't there an in-between plan? 4 GB basic plan with 8 GB Off-peak bonus maybe...
Ok..it's not like they are going to disconnect your Internet once you exceed the data limit but I heard the speed after data excess is far slower than using dial-up. How crappy is that!!
Now, I got to allot precious data usage for work purposes. And I have to limit myself to only one tv show per day on the TV links site.
Enuff of bragging...back to work now. It's already 12pm...gotta watch my usage now since the 'Off-peak' timing is over.
Darn!
