CAN'T BELIEVE I AM SO PASSIONATE ABT THIS

Who would have thought that 'I', an individual who almost always sleeps at 9pm sharp every night, have stayed up till almost 4.00am Australia time just to watch the results of the General Elections in my home country, Singapore. All huddled up in my study room, at the front of my house in Brisbane, with my doona, a jumper and a pair of thick socks - accompanied with a strong cup of coffee and a huge glass of hot water. The cold weather has not deterred me one bit.

Is the loss of sleep worth it?? The answer to this question is 'mixed'.

It is worth it because:
(1) More and more younger Singaporeans are being involved with what is happening in the country.
(2) There is a considerable percentage of Singaporeans who actually have the 'balls' to vote for the opposition despite the constant fears of being 'found out'.
(3) There are closer fights in more and more constituencies, with only marginal wins by the PAP. This will hopefully give the governing party the correct signal not to be complacent and listen to what the people has to say.
(4) 6 opposition seats in Parliament, which is a good start for Singapore - since there was never more than 4 opposition seats in the past.
(5) I am able to watch the entertaining antics of the Returning Officer. This was the highlight of my night (or morning to be more accurate).

It is not worth it because:
(1) Only over 60% of votes for the PAP, but yet this equates to 93% of seats in Parliament. Is this really fair?
(2) We lost George Yeo, a credible minister who's done his part for many, many years. But we gained Tin Pei Ling who is more of a disgrace.......What a bummer!!!!
(3) We lost Chiam See Tong, someone who has fought for the people in a small cubicle at the void deck these past 20 over years.

Whatever the outcome, I am hoping that this year's elections would serve as a major wake-up call for the governing party. Lets move towards a better Singapore, where everyone inter-mingle successfully and cooperate more closely together regardless of our varying race, language or religion.
